Abstract
In this paper are presented the results of the research concerning the weathering degree of the sulphidic rich tailings deposited on the Novăţ tailings storage facility (Novăţ TSF) Maramureş county and considerations are made about the evolution of the acid drainage process in future. The stage of the oxidation differs as a result of the phenomena of bacterial catalysed oxidation, which occurred depending on the age of the deposited tailings and on the mineralogical, physical, chemical and biological factors. The phenomena of acid mine drainage, once begun will continue, which will lead to physical-chemical and mechanical changes of the tailings, with negative effects over the aquatic life downstream of the Novăţ TSF.
